Blogs of Friends

Just recently, I found out that many of my friends and family have blogs. Today we found two of the blogs for college friends we have not seen in years! It was very nice.

There are many of our friends at church who have blogs as well. One family moved to the East Coast for college and we have been able to know some of what they are up to through their blog.

It is not as good as being right there, but it is great to see what our friends and family are doing.

Suffering

In our sacrament meeting today I heard a quote that I will paraphrase here. I liked it very much.

Sometime in the eternities, we will find out that our trials were calculated to turn us to the Lord for help.

Jonathan's Primary Talk

Jonathan gave a talk today in Primary and did an excellent job. He spoke clearly and confidently. I would like to say that he get's his public speaking skills from me, but I am sure that Sarah has a lot to do with it.

Here is the talk that he made up with Sarah's help and gave today.

"Heavenly Father wants us to share the Gospel with others. When Jesus lived on the earth, he told his apostles that they needed to teach the Gospel. He wants us to share the Gospel, too.
When you're sharing the Gospel, you're being a missionary. My Uncle Sam is on a mission in Indiana. He is teaching a lot of people about Jesus and about the Gospel. Our family prays every day for the people he is teaching.
You can be a missionary by telling what you believe in and being a good example.
Last year in school, someone in my class asked about what Mormons believe. Her dad had told her that Mormons are not Christian. That means that they didn't think we believe in Jesus. I told her that we do believe in Jesus. There were other kids at the table who are members of our church and we all got to tell her that we believe in Jesus Christ. We were being missionaries. So can you.
In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen."

Love

I love the daily emails I get from the GEMS mailling list. It is basically great quotes from LDS church leaders and others. Here is the one from today.

"In 1840 the Prophet Joseph sent an epistle to the Twelve wherein he taught that 'love is one of the chief characteristics of Deity, and ought to be manifested by those who aspire to be the sons of God. A man filled with the love of God, is not content with blessing his family alone, but ranges through the whole world, anxious to bless the whole human race'
(History of the Church, 5: 227).
"As we reach out in love to those around us, we fulfill the other half of the great commandment to 'love thy neighbour as thyself' (Galatians 5:14)."
Topics:
love, goals, blessings, discipleship, compassion, service

(Joseph B Wirthlin, "The Great Commandment," Ensign, Nov. 2007, 28)
